Company Profile:

California Coastal Rural Development Corporation (Cal Coastal) is a California chartered non-profit public-benefit corporation, servicing the financial needs of small businesses in the agricultural sector.  The corporation provides direct loans and loan guarantees to customers in the Salinas and Santa Maria areas.  Cal Coastal operates 8 loan programs ranging from $5K - $50K in loan size. 

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer, the Agricultural Loan Officer will assume overall responsibility for Cal Coastal Rural Development’s (CCRD) agricultural loan portfolio, in addition to participating in the development and recommendation of farm loan objectives, policies and practices and provide guidance to officers engaged in farm loan activities.  The Agricultural Loan Officer will be responsible for meeting the organization’s goals in relation to its farm loans business, while ensuring maximum profitability and productivity is achieved without impairing the quality of loans or the level of customer service


Assume direct supervision of other agricultural loan officers in the Salinas office, to include, providing assistance, as needed, in the preparation of loan proposals for eventual review by credit administration, loan committee and Board of Directors;

Develop and implement an overall marketing program for business loan officers, which will result in a minimum of a 20% annualized growth rate in loan guarantees and direct loans for CCRD’s Northern Division;

Assist loan officers in marketing and outreach efforts with farms and businesses;

Perform in-take and processing of potential direct/agricultural loans;

Supervise and organize the presentation of loan proposals and loan analysis to Credit Administration, Loan Committee and if recommended, to the Board of Directors, in a clear, concise and outlined format stating specific risks inherent with the loan;

Review all presented documents formulating a loan proposal and provide succinct, accurate analysis; Upon disbursement of the loans, assume responsibility of monitoring loans and related borrowers; 

Assist Credit Administration with collection efforts and identify and attempt to solve potential default, as needed, in compliance with USDA and Farm Service Agency program regulations and guidelines;

Fully understand the background and parameters of all the programs and services offered by CCRD;

Attend public events and make group presentations on behalf of CCRD;

Seek to identify small business enterprises and farms, which are unable to obtain financial assistance through conventional means; work with the C.C.O. to educate lenders, community groups and the  community regarding CCRD’s resources;

Ensure that loan underwriting criteria and loan policy established by Farm Service Agency and the Board of Directors are implemented and that the evaluation process as well as communicated in the outreach efforts to potential clients;

Collect all pertinent and required documents such as; credit reports, income tax returns and report of existing liens, contracts, assignments, etc., which have bearing on the loan, in addition to compiling a written summary, analysis and evaluation of the loan.


At least 3 years of experience as an Agricultural Loan Officer, or similar experience;

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Agricultural Management, or related discipline;

Advanced level of proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products and related backing software;

Ability to walk long distances through crop fields;

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;


$80K - $90K base salary, DOE; exempt basis, plus excellent benefits

Working Hours:

8:00AM - 5:00PM Monday through Friday with 1 hour for lunch
