Job Summary:

The Travel Trade Manager will promote Santa Barbara to domestic and international receptive and wholesale tour operators, individual tour operators, travel agents and MICE planners.

Responsibilities:

Work in conjunction with the Marketing Department to create and distribute timely destination news, designed to inspire travel from international agencies of record, travel trade operators, wholesalers, travel agents, and industry partners;

Generate sales leads for hotel partners in both the international and domestic travel industry;

Build and maintain relationships with travel trade operators, wholesalers, travel agents and industry partners including local community hospitality partners;

Organize, manage and participate in tradeshows, sales missions and client events to/with tour operators, travel agents and MICE planners; coordinate hotel coop partnerships for proactive client events and trade shows;

Manage arrangements and escorts for tour operators, travel agents and receptive operators for site inspection trips and FAM tours of Santa Barbara, to familiarize them with hotels, restaurants, attractions and services;

Conduct agent training with domestic and international travel counselors;

In partnership with the City of Santa Barbra Waterfront Department, maintain strong cruise ship visitation and drive consideration of Santa Barbra as a return overnight trip;

Assist in the development of sales reports, including monthly and quarterly activity summaries;

Utilize CRM system effectively to maintain database and accurately track daily prospecting;

Add value to supplier partner VSB memberships by referring FAM and site visit clients to goods and services;

Collaborate and develop relationships with other DMO colleagues to learn trends, issues and best practices with potential impacts to the destination;

Meet or exceed established annual sales goals in the areas of agent trainings, FAMS, referrals and receptive room nights.

Qualifications:

BA in business, marketing or related field (or equivalent in directly related work experience) preferred;

Minimum 1 year related experience in a sales or sales support position within hotel sales, chamber of commerce, CVB, destination management, travel agency or tour operator environment;

Strong organization, time management, attention to detail, accuracy and follow-through skills;

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously successfully;

Ability to be tactful, courteous and display appropriate public image when representing Visit Santa Barbara;

Knowledge and familiarity with Santa Barbara as a destination, required;

Strong oral and written communication skills together with exemplary customer service skills;

Proficient Microsoft Office skills, together with current technology;

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;

Must have valid U.S. passport, California Driver’s License, use of a vehicle and auto insurance;

Must be free to travel, as needed, both domestically and internationally to carry out the organization’s goals;

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and transport equipment and materials for use in sales programs.

Working Hours:

8:00AM – 5:00PM, but hours can vary and may require evening and weekends.

Compensation:

$55K - $65K DOE for this full-time exempt position; health insurance @ 100% coverage for employee; paid sick and vacation time; 401k with 3% annual employer match.
